Resort of the Month: Courmayeur
in Italy.
skiing for everybody |
|
Skiing
is as you like it in Courmayeur. Lots of easy stuff for
cruisers, but some high mountain and bumpy black for
better skiers. The same goes for the après ski. Disco
'til dawn, or sit back and sip some local wine. No
matter, you will enjoy it. Here's the nifty gritty. The
skiing is possible to an altitude of 2,700m (the village
lies at 1,200m) with the main action commencing on Plan
Checruit at 2,200m. The only skiing in the village is in
Dolonne (a "suburb" of Courmayeur) that is limited to
absolute beginner's terrain. However, there is at least
one beginner's area at the higher level and plenty of
green (easiest) trails for skiers with few miles under
their boards to practice.
|
The
majority of the slopes are best suited to decent
intermediate skiers; and there are selected areas for
very good skiers to challenge their abilities.
Possibilities for "off piste" skiing abound in
Courmayeur, which has a couple of cable cars serving
"high mountain ski areas", which challenges both skills
and stamina. The moral of the story is that there really
is something for everyone here..
Italian scenery is famous for its scenic
and picturesque mountain ranges.
Courmeyeur, a town in the independent
region of Aosta Valley in northern of
Italy, is one of hottest tourist
destinations in Europe. Individuals who
love the outdoor activities like skiing
and those who like to chill and play a
game of
poker
will surely love Courmeyeur.
Courmayeur, on the Italian side of the
Monte Bianco, or Mont Blanc if you
prefer, is a resort that has grown in
popularity with skiers from all over the
globe.

It is
indeed a truly international entity with
more languages being spoken here than at
the U.N. This, in this writer's humble
opinion is one of the reasons for its
incredible popularity. People like to
mix and mingle, and they like to try to
communicate in different languages. It's
like you have to be popular with
different nationalities to get more
popular with different nationalities.
Somewhat of a reverse "catch 22"
situation.
On
weekends, and during peak holiday
seasons, Courmayeur takes on a
distinctly Italian persona. During those
select periods, the narrow streets of
this grand old village are alive with
fur coats, grand fashion, and the
Italian greeting "Ciao Bella". All of
this is made more noticeable; because
Courmayeur, located as it is snuggled
right up to and separated from France
only by Mont Blanc, does not normally,
at least among its indigenous folk,
boast a typical Italian persona.
Valdostana, we believe is a more
accurate term. |
